Narrow rooms and affordability when building

Narrow rooms need to appear wider and this can be achieved by painting the short walls darker, warmer colours and the longer walls in cooler light colours. Diagonal furniture arrangement works best and linear arrangement on the short walls such as paintings, rugs and shelves 'stretch' them well. Use mirrors on the long walls to create width.

Girls Rooms
Girls are creative, decorative and independent. Include them when decorating. But, due to ever-changing tastes, insist that her favourite colours are only used as accent, for instance on one wall and a few scatter cushions. Pegboards are a must and can also be made of fabrics of the favourite colour. Keep bedding and window dressing in light colours like a soft dove grey which will go with most other colours.

When building it is important to choose a site that you can afford to build on. If major excavations and specialists are required it might push your building costs up more than you can afford. You need to establish whether the property will be close to work, shopping centres, schools and whatever else might be important to you. Is there a municipality providing essential services? Are there building or zone restrictions on the property?
