Saving Energy
Apart from the obvious things such as turning off lights etc. you can also start doing the following simple things to save hours of energy:
-Control the thermostat.
-Use fans instead of air-conditioning.
-Warm water bottles are back in vogue!
-Keep windows closed when using a fan or heater. Never put a heater under the window as the warm air disappears almost instantly.
-Replace bright light bulbs with dense fluorescent light bulbs. CFL’s give the same light but use only about a quarter of the energy of other bulbs and last much longer. (Very important: never throw CFL bulbs in regular trash as it contains mercury.)
-Use natural lighting when possible. Studies proved that those studying/working by natural light achieve over 25% faster than by artificial light.
-Unplug or keep plugs switched off when not in use.
-Set your computer to hibernate after 10minutes of inactivity.
-Cook rather with a big pot on a small plate than small pots on big plates.
-Store boiled water in flasks and only boil a new kettle when the flask is empty.
-Make use of warm/windy days to dry your washing naturally and only use the tumble drier when you have to.
