Green Clean Specific Areas
Air freshener: Add 2 drops of Lemon Grass (or of your choice) essential oil to cotton wool and vacuum this up first. Proceed to vacuum the rest of the house.
Bathroom cleaner: 1/1 baking soda and soap mix. Use to scrub.
Carpet foam cleaner: combine ½ cup of oily liquid soap to 6 tablespoons water. Make foam through whisking and use to rub into carpet. Rinse afterwards.
Carpet odor remover: sprinkle baking soda on the carpet, rest for half an hour and vacuum.
Carpet stain remover: Make a paste from cream of tartar and lemon juice. Apply to stain and rest for 45 minutes before vacuuming. Ensure the carpet isn’t sensitive.
Detox the home: by opening windows and doors while cleaning and letting articles stand outside in the sun, once a week for an hour. Plants are wonderful too, but keep them out of the bedroom.
Disinfectant spray: combine a handful of borax to a liter of water and spray to disinfect.
Furniture polish: olive oil works well, but use sparingly.
General cleaner: 1/1 parts vinegar and hot water. This is an anti-bacterial option that is smudge-free and odorless when dry.
Microwave cleaner: Add a ¼ cup of lemon juice to your microwave and heat for 10 minutes. Clean the oven afterwards with water and a cloth.
Oven cleaner: make a paste from ½ cup of baking soda and 4 tablespoons of salt plus hot water. Rest the past for some minutes and scrub.
Silver cleaner: use white non-gel toothpaste to polish silver pieces with. Add to piece, let dry and rinse properly with water.
Sinks, tiles and tubs liquid detergent: Combine ½ cups of dissolved baking soda (over low stove heat), vinegar and soap, a handful of salt and some 25 drops of grapefruit seed extract. Fill a 1litre bottle ¾ to the top with water and add the rest in, shake and use.
Stain cleaner: combine ½ cup of baking soda (borax for tougher stains) with a little vinegar and let it rest for at least half an hour after application. Ideal for toilets.
Toilet sprays: Essential oils added to water in a spray bottle works wonders. Keeping matches (with/without a candle) next to the toilet is another old and trusted method.
Zeolite mineral to get rid of odors and moisture: keep in the fridge and freezer, the car and wardrobes.
