Moving

It is time to pack up everything. Yes, even those cupboards that you haven't opened in years need to be packed.

One of the first decisions you will have to make is whether you should move everything yourself or should you hire a removal company. This decision is usually determined by three factors:
- cost
- distance
- amount of goods to be moved.

Click here for a list of removal companies. It is always a good idea to get a quote from a few companies. Make sure that you specify what this quote should include, e.g. are boxes include, who will be doing the packing, do you need insurance, etc. Some companies include the VAT while others mention, in the small print, that VAT is excluded.

Tips for packing op your house:

1. Clear out everything you no longer need or want. If it is in a good condition you can give it to someone who can still use it.
2. Pack one room at a time and then mark the box to show where it must go (e.g. kitchen). Remember to mark breakables "Fragile".
3. Ensure that you start early with the defrosting of your fridge.

Tips for the "old house":

1. Cancel all deliveries to your current address and arrange for the new address to be used.
2. Ask the Post Office to forward your mail to the new address.
3. Cancel your household insurance.
4. Say good bye to the neighbours you were friendly with.

Tips for the "new house":

1. Ensure that your electricity and telephone is connected before you move in to minimise discomfort as much as possible.
2. Activate household insurance for the new property.
3. Say hi to the new neighbours.

1. Friends and family (unless, off course, they are the reason why you are moving!)
2. Doctor and dentist
3. Medical aid
4. Bank
5. SARS
6. Employer
7. Schools
